da stake casino: Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has reassured Jermain Defoe that he will have a part to play for the Cherries this season despite having amassed just 14 minutes of Premier League football so far, as reported by The Mirror.
The 36-year-old former England striker can no longer play week in, week out at the highest level, but he could well prove to be a quality squad option for Howe to be able to call upon throughout the campaign.
However, Defoe may well wish to seek more regular football before the end of his career and time is fast running out for the Cherries to recoup any of their investment in the veteran frontman. With the likes of Callum Wilson and Josh King in such good form it is hard to envisage Defoe being anything other than a bit part player throughout the campaign.
Defoe does not represent the future, meaning his place in the squad should probably go to a raw young talent with potential. If Howe does decide to back youth this season, then offloading Defoe in January would be a wise move.
What do you think, Bournemouth fans – should Defoe be let go in the winter transfer window?
